Katikkiro Mayiga Calls on Senior Officials to Strengthen Service Delivery in Kingdom Institutions

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged senior officials of the kingdom’s institutions to enhance oversight and supervision of staff in order to ensure smooth operations in the current year.

During a meeting with senior leaders, the emphasized the need for proper governance and accountability in all departments, asking officials to monitor staff performance and ensure that employees are recognized and rewarded for their service.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining strong relationships with staff, preventing misconduct, and restoring employee morale to boost productivity.

Officials were also reminded to uphold structured processes and implement policies that support the effective running of kingdom institutions. The Katikkiro noted that leadership presence is crucial, as it helps build trust, encourages dialogue, and allows leaders to address staff concerns directly.

Mayiga further called on the leaders to strengthen financial management practices, including proper collection and remittance of funds to the Kabaka’s treasury and the Nkuluze. Officials were encouraged to actively participate in the kingdom’s non-salary programs such as healthcare, rental management, blood donation, child welfare initiatives, and other key activities, as this promotes efficient program delivery.

The Katikkiro expressed appreciation for the senior officials’ efforts in ensuring that the kingdom’s institutions have continued to operate efficiently.

“We must ensure that staff are guided by professionalism and that every employee’s contribution is valued, as this strengthens the reputation and image of the Buganda Kingdom,” he said.

The meeting, which underscored a commitment to accountability and effective management, was attended by the Kingdom Spokesperson Israel Kazibwe Kitooke; the Minister of Land and Housing, Daudi Mpanga; and other key officials, under the chairmanship of Omukungu Roland Ssebuufu.

The First Deputy Katikkiro (Prime Minister) and Minister for Administration and Information Communications Technology (ICT), Prof. Twaha Kaawaase Kigongo, commended the officials for their dedication, noting that “their performance this year has exceeded that of previous years,” reflecting positively on the kingdom’s administration.

The Katikkiro also stressed the importance of employing skilled personnel for key roles, emphasizing that lack of expertise can hinder service delivery, and urged leaders to ensure fairness and integrity in managing staff.
